Farmington Ski Club!

Serving ice cold fun for over a twentieth of a century

>

Q. Can siblings in elementary or high school join the club?

A. Sorry, but no. The club is strictly for students in grades 5-8 at the following schools: Dunckel, East, Hillel, Our Lady of Sorrows, Power & Warner. Home-schooled students who are residents of Farmington or Farmington Hills may also join. You may purchase tickets for siblings at our group rate when you are buying a ticket for a member, but they cannot ride the bus and we will not be responsible for them.

Q. What is an AP Ski or Snowboard lesson?

A. They are semi-private lessons for Advanced skiers. The group lesson program is different this year. Please check the link on the left for details. The advanced lesson cost an additional $5 over and above the Patch Lesson price, but the AP lesson have only 2-3 students per group.

Q. If there is no school that day, is the trip cancelled?

A. No. If the road conditions are too dangerous to travel, then we would cancel. However, this is a winter sport, and unlike the schools, we don't cancel due to cold weather. When the FPS buses are not available, we use Trinity Transportation and have a trailer for carrying equipment.

Q. What should I do if my child is not going to ride the bus?

A. Sign up online and then send an email to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. with the details.

Q. How do I become a chaperone and can I do it if I am not a skier?

A. Non-skiers are welcome and needed every week. Send an email to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.. We will respond on Thursday each week (as soon as we know how many we need). We try to bring one skiing or snowboarding chaperone for every 10 students. We don't know how many we will need until after 8pm on Wednesday night. Chaperones get a free lift ticket (non-transferable), and can order rental equipment up until 8pm on Thursday nights.

Q. Can siblings who are not in grades 5-8 ride the bus?

A. No, sorry. There is one exception to that rule. If you are a chaperone AND riding the bus, they can ride with you.

Q. I have 3 children but not 3 emails. Can I register more than one at the same email address?

A. No. The system requires a unique email for each student. We need a working email to be able to contact you through our listserv. It's also how we store emergency medical information for each student. However, you can 'fake' the email address for your 2nd and 3rd child by adding a + sign and number before the @ symbol (This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.). Emails sent to that address will bounce, but we'll know why. If you have gmail address, you will still get the email this way (This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.). Handy gmail trick - stuff after the + sign in your address doesn't count!

Q. Why is the cutoff for Friday night on Wednesday night?

A. We download our orders from Paypal after 8pm Wednesday night and process the orders. We order the buses and lift tickets on Thursday mornings. Alpine Valley needs to know how many ski instructors to bring in. FPS Transportation has to line up bus drivers. We have to get a head count and line up chaperones. All of this takes time . . . and we have day jobs!

Q. It's past 8pm Wednesday night, and I need to cancel. What can I do?

 A. Send an email to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. and let us know. Once we have placed our order, we are locked in. However, we will add your information to the add/drop list for that week. If someone else writes us looking to get on the trip, we'll work out the trade. In that case we will issue you a coupon code for the same value, good for another trip this season.

Q. It's past 8pm Wednesday night, the store is closed and I didn't get my student signed up. What can I do?

A. Send an email to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. and let us know. We will add your information to the add/drop list for that week, and do our best to pair you up with the person who asked the previous question. Hopefully it all works out.

Q. I put a note in with my order regarding . . . . and did not hear back from anyone. What's up with that?

A. Our weekly order download is not read by humans. It is a spreadsheet over 40 columns wide, and hundreds of lines long. Our automated process extracts the 100+ orders each week, sorts them out into lists for buses, rentals, lessons, etc. If you need to get in touch with us, please use the Contact Us page and write to the parent leader for your school.
